More Room Needed for St. Andrew's

The St. Andrew's Children's Clinic has come a long way from its humble origins in Nogales, Son., but with it's success has come other problems, such as a lack of space. However, this may be remedied in the near future.

Coca Romero, co-founder of St. Andrew's, says that the clinic is hoping to expand to create a more work-efficient environment that would give the volunteers, doctors and patients a much more cohesive way of operating.

The plan? St. Andrew’s administration is exploring possibilities that would allow them to build a new facility directly adjacent to the church.

“We need a lot more space,” Romero said. “In the wintertime, the kids come in at 5 or 6 in the morning and they have to wait outside. It’s very, very cold.”

Romero said the clinic has wanted to expand for a while. The only problem is accumulating the funds necessary to break ground and produce another building.

“Ultimately, a facility that would provide more privacy for the patients would create a better situation for everybody to work in,” said volunteer Peg Wood. “But obviously that takes a lot of money.”

The financial aspect of the project is something the clinic’s board of directors will address, but Romero thinks it’s a problem that must be resolved.
