Valuable Experience for UA Medical Students

Among the many doctors and volunteers who donate their time and experience every month at the St. Andrew's Children's Clinic are medical students from the University of Arizona. They go not only for the valuable experience, but to support the clinic and to help the hundreds of children who come to St. Andrew's seeking medical treatment.

The clinic is one of several volunteer programs that UA medical students participate in as part of the College of Medicine's Commitment to Underserved People Program, which provides early clinical experience and community service to rural and underserved populations in Arizona. The students manage health education programs starting in their first year of medical school and continue throughout their four years of medical school.

While there have been up to 12 UA medical students on hand at St. Andrew's, around 5 or 6 usually work in the pediatric department each month.

Listen to Allison Castro, one of the coordinators of the program, talk about being a medical student at St. Andrew's.
