The Tucson Gem and Mineral Shows brings about 4,500 vendors to Tucson annually, according to tucsongemandmineralshows.net. With sites all over Tucson, people come from all over to buy and sell.

Border Beat reporters Lauren Adams and William Anderson headed down to the site at Tucson Electric Park to find out what the show was all about. They had the opportunity to interview people from the U. S., Morocco and Afghanistan.

Large geodes freed from the center of stones, stoic lions carved out of rock and abundant trilobites excavated from stone were some of the things on display. The eye could be captivated for days at just this one site. With events and displays all over Tucson, the gem show truly must last from the end of January to the middle of February.

At this site, people wander among the many venders, feeling free to touch what caught their interest. Dan M. Lucas, an artist, came down from California to join his friend at the gem show.

"It's dangerous. Money. It's like emptying your bank account," he said.
