More than 1,500 Pima County students from middle schools and high schools  participated in the 21st Annual LULAC Youth Leadership Conference March 15 and 16.

The League of United Latin American Citizens hosted "The Key To Success Is Through Education: Today’s Youth Defining Tomorrow" in partnership with Pima Community College and the Southern Arizona Institute of Leadership, at PCC's West campus, 2202 West Anklam Road.

The conference held a career fair and workshops on the effects of drug use, the importance of education and safety both in and out of school.

“I’m glad this program is here and that we can be a part of it,” said Dr. Louis Albert, president of the PPC West Campus. “These kids are the future and will hopefully take the messages here to heart and go on to college.”

Musician and motivational speaker Patsy Torres and the Positive Force Tour performed at the conference and told students to graduate high school and to go to college.

The LULAC Youth Leadership Conference has had more than 90,000 middle and high school students attend from the Southwest since 1998.
